Dethatching

Turf

In plain English

A thin thatch layer (under ½ inch) is healthy. Thicker thatch chokes the lawn and harbors disease. Dethatching uses a power rake with vertical blades to pull the dead material to the surface, which then gets bagged or composted.

Why it matters for lawn care operators

Like aeration, it's a high-margin upsell to your existing route. Most homeowners can't tell whether their lawn needs it — your judgment becomes the trusted recommendation.
